According to recent survey and supported by our own experience, average speed of a bus in Manhattan is about 4 miles per hour, which is an average speed of a walking person.
If weather is not bad and distance is not great, better take a walk -- it'll be more pleasant.
Buses in other NYC boroughs are much faster than 4mph :)
